August Is Here!!

Hello Everyone!
I cannot believe it is August. It feels like the summer is flying and fall is just around the corner. I am loving Colorado! I feel truly blessed to have made great friends in my new hometown and that I get to see Emily all the time! Our neighbors behind us are an Army family as well. The wife, May, and I have become great friends. We have been cooking dinner together a few nights a week while our "boys" aka husbands are gone. May's husband has been in and out of the USA. My neighborhood does "family" dinners ( sometimes breakfast) about every other week. There are usually three to four families that rotate in attendance. We go and try out different restaurants or host potluck dinners. I have been running, cooking, playing with our dogs, and spending time with family & friends over the past few months. John is doing well. I look forward to having him home for RR sometime soon. I have no idea of the dates as usual but I am still excited!! John and I have been able to email almost daily and chat about once a week depending on his location.

Long Time No Blog

Hello Everyone!
I hope this note finds everyone doing well! I cannot believe John left over a month ago! Time has surely flown by the past few weeks. I have an address for John if anyone is interested in sending him a card! My house is falling into a new normal routine. I have returned to work. I am working as a paralegal for a Gasper Law Group which is a local firm. I am working downtown right beside the court house. I started two weeks ago and all is going well. It has been a huge change after taking over a year off work. However, I do believe that it was the correct choice. I hired a dog sitter who walks Sam and Mister once or twice a day depending on my schedule. YES, it is worth the money. Sam, our lab, was getting bored and tearing apart the house. I am happy to report that my house has stayed in one piece since Ron started walking both dogs. I have made a few army wife friend. We do girls date night once a week. I am also starting to volunteer within our FRG and I may have lost my mind but I told the Brigade  Commander's wife that I would be happy to help in the planning of the welcome home ball in June 2011.

Travel Time!

Good morning family and friends! We hope this note finds everyone doing well. It is travel time at the Taylor house! John has block leave for a little over a week. "Block leave" is the time John has off before he deploys. We start our adventures tomorrow. We are going Orem, Utah to visit his family then the rest of the time we will be on some sort of adventure. We are looking into going to Moab, Utah or spending a few days in Vegas. My vote is Vegas but we shall see. Our friend, Kate, is going to watch the dogs so we have more flexibility traveling.

Happy Easter!

Hi Everyone!
Happy Easter! We hope everyone has had a great Easter. Emily and I hosted an Easter lunch-dinner at my house today. It was fun to use my china and silver. I always love a perfectly set dinner table with china & silver. We had fruit, cheese, crackers, chips to name a few of the appetizers. Dinner consisted of honey baked ham, potatoes, macaroni casserole, green bean casserole to name part of the dinner.  We had a wonderful wine and champagne selections thanks to Emily. I must say today would have not been a success without Emily's  help! Emily gets rockstar brownie points.

I also would like to point out how awesome Em has been the past few weeks. I broke my wrist almost three weeks ago and Emily has been helping bunches. She has cooked and cleaned my house more than once!

Pie Update

Hi everyone! Well, I am silly! I forgot to put the sugar down for the chocolate pie!
The receipt needs two cups sugar. I have also tried using Splenda but it does not work as well. I am not sure why but the pie turns out runny when using Splenda!

Hello!

Hi everyone! I hope this note finds everyone doing well! We have been busy at the Taylor house! We are now mostly settled in our home. Our new washer & dryer arrived yesterday. Seriously, I never thought I would be so excited to do laundry but after not having a washer & dryer for over a month it is great to wash our own clothes. John's "man cave" and office are done. I am currently working on my living room and dining room. I have hosted a few dinners already at the house so the dining room is in good enough shape to entertain.

We are getting back into the army routine. John is working nutty hours which is usual. I have gone to a few deployment meeting. I have joined the officers spouse club and family readiness group. Luckily, there is another family here from Fort Campbell. It has turned out to be great! John and Jeremy have been through one deployment together. I didn't get to meet his wife until we relocated to Colorado Springs. I think Lindsey is super nice and I am so glad to have a friend. My sister, Emily, has been a huge cheerleader for us! I have been able to see Emily a  few times already. We even had a lunch date at her work! John and I are looking forward to having Emily spend Easter with us.

A few quick notes about deployment:
As we are getting closer to late spring-early summer, deployment is in count-down days now. I know it will become obvious that I am not blogging much about John or his work. I am not told much and that is for his safety. Eventually, I will have an address to send care package and letters. I will be happy to pass along John's address via phone if anyone wants it. If anyone has specific questions, please feel free to call and ask. However, I may or may not know the answer. Please keep John and his soldiers in your prayers.

Much Love,
M&J

Pikes Peak Highway

Hi everyone:
We hope this note finds everyone doing well. We spent the morning driving through Pikes Peak Highway. The top of the mountain is 14000ft!!! We drove to 13000ft then turned around because our bodies are still adjusting to the altitude. We stopped along the way to check out the views and walk the dogs. I plan to add more information about our adventure later so here are a few photos for now!!

Day Zero Complete!

We have made it to Bristol, Tennessee tonight. The dogs both did well today. I took our vet's advice and gave our lab, Sam, benadryl to make him calm for the car ride. Sam is always great for the first three or so hours then goes bonkers. It worked and now I agree with the vet. I was not happy with the idea earlier in the week. We stopped around 8ish so we could order dinner and relax. We are now munching on Cracker Barrel biscuits. Tomorrow, I'm making a family decision.. back to not eating so much junk food. This week we have had pizza twice etc. I usually pack healthy snacks- sandwiches in a cooler but did not have enough time any day this week. We plan to sleep in as long as we can then we will head to Mount Pleasant. We are so excited to see Aunt Linda and Uncle Joe!

Day Zero of Drive

Hi everyone!
It's Friday!! Bye Bye Fort Lee! We stayed in lodging last night to get a good night sleep. This morning we woke up with both dogs in our bed. Generally speaking the dogs are not allowed in the bed but PCS time is an exception. John is driving the truck and I am following in the car. Mister dog is riding with me and as usual Sam dog will ride with John. We will check in soon!

Last Day at Fort Lee

Hello Everyone!
Today is our last full day stationed at Fort Lee!! The moving van just pulled away from the house and John clears his unit first thing in the morning! This week has been a whirl wind!! We have been going non-stop since our trip to Colorado last weekend. I am guessing we have about two or three more hours in our house until we head to lodging for the night.  I think we are turning "pro" in moving! This is our third move in  less than two years.  I was laughing with a good friend today about our "on the go" life.  I think the average person moves maybe three to four times in their entire life. A typical army family moves about every two years. We are so lucky that we get to see the USA & world.

Packers, Movers, Clearing, OH MY!!

Hi Everyone!
I hope this note finds everyone doing well. We have arrived safe & sounds in Virginia. We are at home in full swing to move. Thank you to Emily who gave up her bedroom last night so we could have a decent night sleep! John is studying for his finial and I am attempting to get our house ready for the packers on Tuesday. I believe a lot of this move has to do with attitude! We are thrilled with our new duty station, our new hometown, and our house! On the other hand, I ( We) have a checklist that just is not going to be completely done. We have decided to not take a UHAL and let the packer do most everything. I will of course pack a few basics. We clear ( leave) Fort Lee on Friday! John and I are stopping in Nashville on our journey out west! Early thank you to Aunt Linda and Uncle Joe who are meeting us at their cabin for a day or two as we head west!

Cheers!

Travel

Hello everyone!
As always, John and I are on an adventure. Due to weather, our schedule has changed. We are flying from Richmond to Dallas tonight. Tomorrow, we fly out of Dallas to Denver. We are then driving to Colorado Springs to meet Kathleen. We will be able to still to start house hunting at 9AM Friday.

We are going to drive back to Denver Saturday evening. We are going to stay with Emily on Saturday night. We fly home Sunday at 6AM so John has time to study. John's exam starts Monday.

We are fine and eating dinner in the Richmond Airport as I type. Sleep is so overrated!

T is for Tuesday!

Hello Everyone! I hope this post finds each of you doing well. The past week has been super busy. I had planned on mom helping get the house ready to PSC but instead I have had the crud-bug. I just have to laugh because it is so typical for me to get sick during PCS timing.  Thankfully, mom has been helping around the house by cooking & walking the dogs to just name a few. Yesterday, I was well enough to get out of the house! John had the day off so we all went to meet our family friend Camille. We had a wonderful lunch and a fascinating tour of Fort Monroe.   Today, I was able to sleep until 10:00AM and now we (Mom, Richard and I) are off to do a long list of errands.  John and I head to Colorado on Thursday night to spend the weekend.  The goal is to find a house! We arrive home on Sunday night and the movers arrive on Tuesday

Happy Saturday!

Hello!
Thank you to everyone for all of the birthday calls, emails, texts etc yesterday! I had a great birthday! My day at the spa was lots of fun. I had a massage, manicure & pedicure. John and I went out to an early dinner to Cheesecake Factory. I picked Cheesecake Factory. Mom had a chocolate cake delivered to the house yesterday which was awesome. I was really surprised! I plan to share the cake with friends.

It is a beautiful day here! The sun is out and it is near 50 degrees! It is a lazy weekend at the Taylor house.
John is out washing the truck and I just returned from taking a walk with our dogs. This is our last slow weekend until we are settled in Colorado. We are looking forward to Mom and Richard arriving in town on Friday.

House Hunting

Hi Ho! Off to Colorado we go! John and I have been house hunting online for the past week. We have currently created a list of houses for our realtor. We plan to fly to Colorado the third weekend of February. Instead of shop til you drop, the theme is view houses until we drop! The goal is to put an offer on a house before we clear ( leave) Virginia. Ms. Ester from Hopewell Animal  Hospital will be watching the dogs.
